Abutment Selection and Prosthetic Options for Fixed Arch Restorations

DAY 1: SUMMARY

The success of an implant procedure is gauged by the excellence of the final restoration. Selection of the most appropriate abutment plays a tremendous role in achieving a desirable outcome. However, due to the vast number of choices available within each implant system, abutment selection can befuddle a clinician. Becoming familiar with the three critical areas for abutment selection—biologic, biomechanical, and esthetic factors— will help the clinician zero in on the right choice of abutment for each case. This full day lecture covers the components of a restoration that a clinician should keep in mind when deciding on the ideal abutment, including implant-abutment connections, number of restorations, restoration retention, whether implants are splinted, whether straight or angled implants have been used, prosthetic materials, and whether the primary requirements of a restoration are esthetic or functional. These practical guidelines are intended to simplify the process of prosthetic rehabilitation in patients requiring fixed implant-supported restorations.

OBJECTIVES

  • Know the importance of the triad of abutment selection criteria for successful restoration outcome—biologic, biomechanical, and esthetic considerations
  • Understand the implant and restoration-related factors to consider during abutment selection
  • Learn practical clinical guidelines for abutment selection
  • Study the appropriate use of abutments based on specific clinical situations

DAY 2: Immediate Implant Dentistry and Provisionalization: The Immediacy Algorithm Protocols

Immediate implant dentistry and provisionalization has become quite routine in dentistry. In fact, the ability to gain adequate primary stability and customize provisionals may in fact be favored over traditional approaches. This course will offer a step-by-step approach to immediate implant dentistry for both anterior and posterior teeth with various concepts and evidence-based approaches presented. Understanding the appropriate case selection and properly assessing risk analysis will be discussed. This hands-on course will also provide the attendees with an in-depth review of immediate implant concepts in both anterior and posterior aspects of the mouth with a step-by-step protocol including hands on exercises using 3D printed models. Lastly, same day temporization techniques will be discussed as a key focus within the hands-on section.

Immediate Implant Dentistry and Provisionalization: The Immediacy Algorithm Protocols

  • Step by step approach to immediate implant therapy in both anterior and posterior segments of mouth

  • Understand appropriate case selection on when to immediate versus stage

  • Being able to assess and establish risk on eligible cases

  • Hands on Training on 3D printed models including same day temporization techniques

  • Managing complications

DAY 3: DENTAL IMPLANT MARKETING

MARCUS HINES

Adopting a well-crafted marketing strategy to attract and influence people who need dental implant treatment is foundational to molding a practice that performs an above-average number of dental implant procedures. The effective use of visual aids and verbal skills will lead to more patients desiring treatment. A well-designed website that adequately conveys the rationale and benefits of various dental implant procedures will attract individuals who use the Internet to make informed health care decisions. Database marketing for targeting individuals with missing teeth is one of the most efficient and cost-effective methods available to clinicians seeking to increase the number of dental implant procedures they perform. And finally, there are tactical approaches for educating patients on common resources used to pay for dental implant therapy.

OBJECTIVES

  • Understand how the proper use of dental implant models and visual aids influences dental implant case acceptance
  • Understand how search engine optimization (SEO) drives dental implant traffic
  • Learn how to leverage database marketing for the purpose of targeting specific patients for dental implant therapy
  • Appreciate the power of video testimonials from prior dental implant patients to attract prospective patients
  • View dental insurance from the proper perspective, emphasizing more effective financial resources for patients
