Over the last 30 to 40 years, dental implant placement has become a common and predictable procedure performed in the office. Success rates have been linked to proper discovery of the patient’s medical history, including medical conditions, medications, clinical examination, and interpretation of laboratory and radiographic data. It is imperative to approach this record taking in a methodical manner to formulate appropriate treatment options and ultimately one treatment plan. This systematic approach can make implant dentistry more predictable and more enjoyable with fewer complications. Dental implant placement can be a complicated undertaking for a new clinician.
